Viaggiare per la Val d’Orcia in bici offre la possibilità di godersi veramente la strada ed il paesaggio notando quei particolari che altrimenti non avremmo mai visto. Viaggiando in bici si scoprono inoltre percorsi difficilmente raggiungibili con altri mezzi e si entra in contatto diretto con il territorio, riscoprendo il piacere autentico di viaggiare lentamente.
Certo un po’ d’allenamento non guasta, dopotutto la Val d’Orcia è famosa per le sue colline, ma non dovete essere per forza ciclisti esperti, basterà salire in sella alla bici e godere della bellezza che vi circonda. Noi vi suggeriamo un itinerario abbastanza semplice che vi porterà alla scoperta di panorami unici attraverso Pienza, Monticchiello e le colline della Val d’Orcia.

Visitare la Val d’Orcia in Bici

Partenza dal nostro Agriturismo Castello di Spedaletto in direzione Bagno Vignoni, dopo circa 2 Km di strada asfaltata girate a destra ed imboccate la strada bianca che vi porterà a Pienza.
Da qui sarete nella natura incontaminata, circondati dai campi coltivati mentre la strada comincia leggermente a salire. Percorsi circa 7 Km arriverete a Pienza e potrete godervi la prima meritata pausa visitando lo splendido borgo.

Da qui si prosegue per la seconda tappa in direzione Montepulciano lungo la strada asfaltata. Dopo aver percorso circa 4 Km vedrete sulla vostra sinistra Palazzo Massaini, un piccolissimo borgo su una collinetta, a questo punto fate attenzione, superata l’indicazione per Palazzo Massaini svoltate a sinistra sulla strada bianca e proseguite verso Monticchiello.
Adesso è semplice, la strada è molto bella, panoramica ma soprattutto in discesa. Godetevi la strada ed il panorama per altri 6 Km fino a Monticchiello e tenete un po’ di energie per l’ultima salita. Vi siete meritati la seconda sosta, complimenti! Fate un giro nel piccolo borgo e dissetatevi.

A questo punto si torna verso la base, scendete e seguite la strada asfaltata fino alla fine del giro all’Agriturismo Castello di Spedaletto.

A labyrinth of paths through the Val d’Orcia, a land that is not made to be crossed hurry. PETRIOLO 
Nature, art and history! The thermal baths of Petriolo are located along the banks of a river, a short walk from the Natural Reserve of the Basso Merse. Very particular the remains of the wall which makes the Baths of Petriolo an exceptional example of terme fortified. Going further south in Maremma you can reach the baths perhaps best known in all of Tuscany, the beautiful Saturnia Spa, to reach them from the farm you will have to drive for about 60Km, but it’s worth it.
The Thermal Falls of Saturnia have arisen naturally, by a travertine rock, excavated from the waterfall of thermal sulphurous waters. The Itinerary “Nature and Landscape” is designed for those traveling by car or better in motorbike, quite challenging for cyclists, but depend on your exercise. The route stretches for about 64 km between natural beauty, natural hot spring water surrounded by woods and mountain villages.

Here is the itinerary:

1) QUERCIA DELLE CHECCHE:
Just started, you immediately find the first surprise, the Oak of “Checche”, A monumental tree which takes its name from a village. (the term “checca” or “cecca”, in Tuscany indicates the magpie.) The mighty tree has an age of about 360 years, is up more than 22 meters, the perimeter of the trunk measures about 4, 5 meters and the hair reaches more than 34 meters in diameter.
History has seen protagonist this tree centenary on several occasions such as during World War II where he provided shelter for the ammunition of partisans. The tree is also known as “Oak of the Witches”, according to legend, it was once a meeting place for witches during their rituals.

2) RISERVA NATURALE DI LUCCIOLABELLA:
Continuing you encounter a natural protected area, inserted in the last “outposts” of eastern “Crete Senesi”, and has all the elements of the typical campaign Val d’Orcia countryside.

The Fosso Bianco will be the place you not be able to forget, a stream in the woods at the confluence of several hot water springs in a succession of “pools” natural pools where you can take a bath all year around and admire the particular limestone formations with their suggestive shapes. The area is reached by a road above the village and across a picturesque walking path surrounded by green woods you get to the pools, accompanied by the sound of the water.

4) RADICOFANI:

The History of the Castle

DESCRIPTION

The Castle was built in the XII century by the religious Ugolino da Rocchione along the Via Francigena to give shelter to the wayfarers and pilgrims traveling to Rome and this is the reason why the castle has this name “Spedaletto” that is an old italian word that means “little shelter”.

King Philip II of France was the first to mention the Castle Spedaletto in his memoirs during the return journey from the Third Crusade in 1191. In 1236 Spedaletto castle passed under the administration of the Hospital “Santa Maria della Scala” in Siena and we has track as “Spedale del Ponte dell’Orcia” thanks to the proximity to the old bridge over the river Orcia, today only ruins remain in the waters. A century later the castle was transformed into a “grancia”, a fortified farm that was intended to keep the harvests and administer this portion of Val d’Orcia, walls and towers were added in this period.

Thanks to the numerous donations, the castle reached such a reputation that famous people like Charles II the Lame and Pope Pius II stayed here.

The “Strada del Vino Orcia”

DESCRIPTION

Val d’Orcia it is considered to be the most beautiful countryside in the world and accordingly has received UNESCO’s World Heritage listing, the first rural zone to be awarded such recognition. The beauty of the landscape features the whole territory production of the Orcia wine, that changes from the lunar landscape of the Crete Senesi to the rows of cypress on gentle hills with castles, abbeys, farm and medieval villages, centuries old olive trees and vines, and fields of grain alternating with pastures.

The appellation Orcia was born February 14, 2000 in-between the older and more famous of the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and the Brunello di Montalcino. In this artisanal context with its long standing tradition is how the project “Orcia il vino più bello del mondo” is born, with the objective to transform the tourist present on the territory into consumers, estimator and propagators of Orcia Wine. And there are two new proposals included in the project: “Wineries with a view” and “Wine trekking”.

The “Strada del Vino Orcia” was born in 2003 and had its office at the Rocca a Tentennano in Castiglione d’Orcia. Winery tours await you, tighter with tours of vineyards and wine tasting accompanied by bruschette with Extra Vergin Olive Oil, tasty local chess and cold meats. For those who would like to experience the atmosphere in the wineries of the Strada del Vino Orcia during the grape harvest, these are the ideal places. It is also possible to try the wines at wine bars and restaurant when visiting the artistic town of the Doc Orcia area or go shopping in the artisans workshop.

– ORCIA SANGIOVESE RISERVA: The denomination of origin Orcia Sangiovese, subjected to aging for a period of not less than 30 months, of which at least 24 in oak barrels, has the right to mention reserve.

– ORCIA ROSATO: Made from Sangiovese (minimum 60%) and other non-aromatic grapes authorized by the Region Tuscany.

– ORCIA BIANCO: Made from Tuscan Trebbiano (minimum 50%) and other non-aromatic grapes authorized by the Region Tuscany. It is introduced to the market on March 1st, the year following vintage.

– ORCIA VIN SANTO: Made from Tuscan Trebbiano Toscano (minimum 50%) and other non-aromatic grapes authorized by the Region Tuscany. 2. ANDARE ALLE TERME

La Val d’Orcia non è solo paesaggio e buon cibo, offre anche alcune delle più belle stazioni termali della Toscana. Piscine termali aperte al pubblico e immerse nella natura o stabilimenti termali esclusivi o più abbordabili: insomma ce n’è per tutti i gusti, l’unica costante è lo splendido panorama che farà da contorno al vostro relax.
Le terme che vi suggeriamo di visitare sono Bagno Vignoni, Bagni San Filippo e San Casciano dei Bagni.

3. UN GIRO IN MONGOLFIERA

Qual’è il miglior punto di vista per godere di un panorama splendido? Beh sicuramente dall’alto, ecco perché vi suggeriamo di provare quest’esperienza unica: un giro in mongolfiera in Val d’Orcia, volando sulle colline della Toscana.

4. UNA VISITA IN CANTINA

La Toscana dei vini è famosa per il Chianti, il Brunello di Montalcino o il Nobile di Montepulciano, tutti ottimi vini che potrete degustare in in Val d’Orcia e nei dintorni. Quello che vi suggeriamo però è scoprire i vini DOC Orcia. Una denominazione giovane ed ancora poco conosciuta ma che saprà conquistarvi. Prendetevi il tempo per visitare una cantina e degustare un buon bicchiere di Orcia DOC.

5. TREKKING PANORAMICO

Una terra unica che offre percorsi unici per tutti gli appassionati del trekking ma anche per una semplice passeggiata in compagnia con lo sguardo che si perde tra le colline. Ci sono tantissimi sentieri per tutti i gusti oppure c’è la Via Francigena per i veri amanti delle sfide.

6. VISITARE I BORGHI

La Val d’Orcia è uno scrigno pieno di tesori, sono tanti i borghi ed i villaggi da visitare, ecco quelli che vi suggeriamo:

7. IN BICI TRA LE COLLINE

Basta poco: salite in sella alla vostra bicicletta e “perdetevi”, non in senso letterale, tra le bellezze del paesaggio. La bici forse è il modo migliore per scoprire la Val d’Orcia, lentamente, al ritmo della natura.

8. UN GIRO IN VESPA O IN AUTO D’EPOCA

9. UNA BELLA CAVALCATA

Non bisogna per forza essere cavalieri esperti, i tanti maneggi con cui collaboriamo hanno la soluzione perfetta anche per coloro che vogliono provare a cavalcare per la prima volta. E’ un’esperienza da fare, magari in compagnia, con la famiglia o con gli amici.

10. VISITA AL MULINO VAL D’ORCIA CON MACINE IN PIETRA
Presso il Castello di Spedaletto, antica granfia medioevale, a pochi chilometri da Bagno Vignoni, troverete il Mulino Val d’Orcia, un Mulino con macine in pietra dove la nostra azienda produce i tipici pici della tradizione. Al Mulino Val d’Orcia potrete effettuare visite guidate, vedere come si macina il grano con la macinazione a pietra e come si producono i pici trafilati in bronzo. Si effettuano anche pranzi degustazione dei prodotti aziendali.
